John Ruskin Quotation


On page 537 of The Genius of John Ruskin: Selections from His Writings (see here) Ruskin says

From John Bunyan and Isaac Ambrose, I had received the religion by whch I still myself lived, as far as I had a spritual life at all ....

Ruskin is seeking to show us that he had an orthodox evangelical upbringing. It is interesting that he mentions Ambrose in the same breath as the now much more famous Bunyan in order to convey this. This suggests the high regard in which Ambrose was once held.
